Dopamine (DA, a contraction of 3,4-dihydroxyphenethylamine),molecular formula:C₆ H₃ (OH)₂ -CH₂ -CH₂ -NH₂, is a neuromodulatory molecule that plays several important roles in cells. It is an organic chemical of the catecholamine and phenethylamine families. Dopamine constitutes about 80% of the catecholamine content in the brain. It is an amine synthesized by removing a carboxyl group from a molecule of its precursor chemical, L-DOPA, which is synthesized in the brain and kidneys. Dopamine is also synthesized in plants and most animals. In the brain, dopamine functions as a neurotransmitter—a chemical released by neurons (nerve cells) to send signals to other nerve cells.

| Typical data

As the OD values of the standard curve may vary according to the conditions of the actual assay performance (e.g. operator, pipetting technique, wash technique or temperature effects), the operator should establish a standard curve for each test. Typical standard curve and data are provided below for reference only.

Concentration (pg/mL) 1000 500 250 125 62.5 31.2 15.6 0
OD 0.216 0.298 0.417 0.669 0.955 1.405 1.79 1.865

| Repeatability

Intra-assay Precision (Precision within an assay):CV% < 10%; Inter-assay Precision (Precision between assays):CV% < 10%

| Recovery

The recovery of Rat DA spiked at three different levels in samples throughout the range of the assay was evaluated in various matrices.

Sample Type Range(%) Average Recovery(%)
Serum(n=8) 81-101 96
Plasma(n=8) 92-105 101

| Linearity

Samples were spiked with high concentrations of Rat DA and diluted with Universal Diluent to produce samples with values within the range of the assay.

    Serum(n=4) Plasma(n=4)
1 : 2 Range (%) 83-96 88-96
Average (%) 93 92
1 : 4 Range (%) 89-104 87-108
Average (%) 95 99
